FAQ for Coffee Lovers

What is ShareCup

ShareCup is a deposit system for reusable cups. It allows coffee lovers to enjoy their takeaway latte without the guilt of having it in a single use paper cup. It is free as long as you return the cup to a participating location.

What is made of

ShareCup is made of bamboo fibre, corn fibre and natural resin.

My café offers recyclable cups. So why do I need ShareCup

Good point. There are many recyclable and biodegradable options in the market but the reality is recyclable cups still end up in landfill (only 7% is recycled) and biodegradable cups require high temperature and certain conditions which is unfortunately only possible in special composting centres that are not many.

Plus that’s all still single use which means producing products to be used only for 20 minutes then throw away.

How does it work

It’s very simple. You go to a participating café in ShareCup system, order your favourite takeaway drink and ask for it to be in a ShareCup. Pay for your drink as you would usually do plus a fully refundable deposit for the cup which you can get back when you return your cup to any participating location.

How much does it cost

It is free! Yes that’s true and there is no catch. You only pay $5 deposit to the café that you will get fully back once you return your cup to the same café or any other partipating location.

How many can I have at the same time

There is no limit to how many cups you can borrow at a time. It is up to you if you want to use ShareCup as your saving account and return all your cups at once. That’s up to you.

Is there a limit to how long I can keep the cup

No limit either. Enjoy your coffee and return the cup at your earliest convenience. The whole idea is to make the right sustainable decision convenient for you.

I really like the cup, can I keep it?

Absolutely. You can keep the cup but the idea is to use them as shared system so we are not producing more cups all the time. It is more environmentally friendly to share.

Can I reuse the same cup

Yes off course. You can keep using the same cup if you like and treat it like a keep cup. You just won’t get your deposit back until you return but hey it’s only $5 and you are obviously using the cup so why not!

Do I need to wash the cup before returning it?

No need. The cafes will commercially wash your cup once returned similar to the way they wash all their other cups and glasses. so you can relax and leave this to the café.

Do I need to pay any membership

There is no membership and monthly payment needed. It is a simple system to allow you to borrow cups easily and conveniently.

Do I need to sign up to a system

Nope no need for that either. Call us old-fashioned and idiots for not collecting your data but that’s not why we are here for. We simply want to make it easy for you to borrow a cup anywhere.

Where can I return the cup after finishing

Participating cafes will have a ShareCup sticker on their window so you can spot them when you are walking by. They will also be listed on our website.

Does ShareCup come with a lid

It doesn’t. we did a lot of market research and asked many of you and café owners and arrived to the decision of not having shared lids to go with ShareCup. The main reason is hygiene. Not everyone drink their coffee from a lid and for those of us who likes to there will be silicon lids available at the cafes to buy and keep.

Where can I get a lid from

Lids can be bought from all participating cafes.

What if I forget my lid

It happens to all of us. You can borrow a cup without a lid if that works for you. But if that’s not an option for you, you will need to buy a new lid but don’t worry we have different colour lids so you can dress up your cup in different colours.

Are your lids dishwasher safe

Yes they are.
